ESD protection in the workplace is comprehensive. In addition to the familiar antistatic grounded mats, bracelets and hand tools in antistatic design, local air ionization is an effective measure in creating an antistatic zone.
The flow of ionized air is directed directly to dielectric surfaces where electrostatic charge is present. Negatively charged ions, being attracted to molecules of opposite polarity, neutralize static charge even on those surfaces that cannot be grounded.
Air ionization reduces the adhesion of dust on the surface. This is especially true when working with optics, when replacing mobile phone displays, etc. - i.e. wherever a “clean zone” is required.
